Sports Tours International running rep and frequent marathon runner Sam Tisbury recently visited Club La Santa on an active holiday. Find out how Sam’s experience was visiting the resort as a solo traveller!

Do you have any sport related goals at the moment?
“I am aiming to complete the 6-star World Marathon Majors, I have already completed four and it is just Tokyo and Boston left! I love travelling the world with running.”
As a solo traveller, what was your experience with socialising with other guests at CLS during the activities and down time?
“As a solo traveller, CLS does some great things to be able to encourage people to come on their own. At CLS it’s very easy to be as involved, or as out of the action as you wish, and it is very easy to meet people when playing the social tournaments.”
Which activities did you try that you haven’t done before?
“Unfortunately, I twisted my knee playing beach volleyball which limited the activities that I could take part in. This meant that I visited the medical centre and the staff there were very helpful in assessing my situation.

Sidney took the Kettlebell class after I twisted my knee. She also checked throughout that I was getting on ok. I did hill repeats with Maria and Sebastian in the bike centre. I’d never cycled in a group before, and Maria made sure I was comfortable in the group, whilst also making sure the whole group was safe. Sebastian led the group very well too.
Beach volleyball was also a lot of fun! The instructor took us through lessons on how to play the game, and the varying shots. The teams were mixed up so that most people played with people they didn’t know, which made it fun and we later had drinks with those team mates at the Monday night club night. The Green Team were very helpful and ensured that I was ok.
The final class I did was Fitball, which was very enjoyable and different to anything I have ever done. It involved rolling around on a medicine ball working on balance, everyone old and young were getting involved. It created a lot of laughter across the whole group in the volcano.”
What was your experience of the wellness centre?
“The women at the spa were super helpful and accommodating. I bought the weekly pass and once they were made aware of my knee injury, they allowed me to use the spa throughout the day as frequently as required to make use of the cold plunge. It was great and never overcrowded.”

How were the Green Team instructors during the activities?
“The Green Team were amazing throughout the trip. They knew about my knee and constantly asked how I was getting on, they were accommodating with exercise classes etc. And they were friendly and knowledgeable within their disciplines.”
How did you find the Club La Santa App during your trip?
“The app was really useful for booking classes and courts, and the points system meant that people couldn’t book too much or stop others from being able to book everything.”
Do you have any plans to come back to Club La Santa?
“I will be making it at least an annual trip and can’t wait to come back and make up for what I missed out on this time. One positive of injuring myself on this trip, is that I ended up doing different classes than I wouldn’t normally do to compensate for what I missed out on, it was great fun. There is something for everyone, whether coming solo, as a couple, in groups, or families.”
