Cat Ferguson: 14 Years of CLS and Her Cycling Journey!
Cat Ferguson, who has been coming to Club La Santa with her family for 14 years, spoke to us about what our resort means to her. This year she made headlines becoming a four-time Junior cycling World Champion and winning an additional six NC European races. She finished the spectacular season racing for Movistar in five elite women’s races, winning two and coming 2nd and 7th in the others. As she starts her professional cycling career in 2025 with Movistar, she is one to watch!

It is great that you have been coming to Club La Santa for 14 years, what does CLS mean to you?
“I have gone pretty much every year, sometimes even more than once a year. It’s one of my favourite holidays and I really do mean that. The variety of things you can do there is great, ever since I was a kid I have been into every single sport and going there I could do anything and everything, fill my entire day with activities and be able to do it with my Mum and Dad and they could do their own thing too so it was just so great for us as a family. It has really shown me how much I enjoy and love sports and through that, I eventually found the sport I love doing the most and what I focus on now which is cycling.”
What is your favourite part about Club La Santa?
“The atmosphere! You have got a real range of people there, some professionals go to do their training, and some people go just to have a bit of a beach holiday, so you get to meet so many different people. It suits families with loads of kids, each kid can do what they want, and the parents can do their own thing. The versatility and how inclusive it is makes it a really unique holiday.”
What role has the resort played in your journey as a cyclist?
“It has taught me to balance things in life. I would have classes from 9am to 4pm so I wouldn’t have time to go home and I’d have to take my lunch. Because I have been going since I was four, I was very independent from a young age. It has also taught me discipline which I use in my cycling career now, especially when I had to balance A levels and school with cycling, that was difficult, and I think it’s great for young kids to experience that discipline.”

Have you taken part in any of the events at CLS?
“I would do all the Kid’s Shows. I used to be really shy as a kid, but now I’m quite confident and I think taking part in those sorts of things has really helped to bring my confidence out. I did some of the duathlons and triathlons, I literally did anything and everything.”
Do you have any favourite areas at the resort?
“I would say that outside of the resort I really like the Timanfiya cycling route, in resort I think my favourite place to sit and relax is the leisure pool and pool bar area.”
Do you have any particularly memorable experiences from your trips to CLS?
“I remember being in the Kid’s Club loads and really enjoying that. My mum and Dad could go off and do what they want. We would do really fun activities and not be left to ourselves. I really loved doing the Kid’s Show, practising with friends I’d met at the resort and then doing the show was great.”

Do you have any tips for anyone who might be coming to the resort for the first time?
“Bring sun cream! And even though all the classes are so tempting, don’t do all of them on the first day – you will be so tired for the rest of the week! If you’re a cyclist definitely do the Timanfiya route. I would also say make sure you get an ice cream from the pool bar.”
How does CLS fit into your future training plans?
“It definitely will. I do a discipline of cycling called cycle-cross, which tends to be in the Winter and involves running and things other than cycling in terms of training. So it’s important to be in a resort like Club La Santa or somewhere like that where there is more than just good roads to cycle on, there’s also really great facilities such as the gym and running options, it’s really convenient and a professional environment. The weather’s always great in Lanzarote so I think it’s a really good place to train.”
